First-Time Setup

When you open Piano Tree for the first time, a short guided setup helps you choose how you want to play and makes sure your input works.

What you'll go through

How do you want to play? — Choose MIDI Keyboard / Digital Piano, Microphone (Acoustic Piano), or On-Screen Piano.

Activate your input — Connect your MIDI keyboard, allow microphone access, or confirm the on-screen keys (this step is skipped for On-Screen Piano).

Microphone calibration (microphone only) — The app plays a beep and measures latency so detection timing is accurate.
•
Play Middle C — Play one correct note so the app can confirm your setup is working.
•
Play a short melody (optional) — Hit each note as it lights up. You can skip this step.
•
A few quick questions (optional) — Experience level, goals, and how you found Piano Tree.
•
Role (web only) — Self-learner, student with a teacher, or teacher.
•
Profile name — If you're a student or teacher, you can set a display name.
•
Premium suggestion — Optionally start a 7-day free trial, or continue for free.

You can skip the whole onboarding from the first screen (Skip onboarding). You can finish setup later in Settings or when you open a piece.

Your chosen input method is saved. Microphone users also get the backing track volume lowered automatically for better note detection.
